“I Was There Once” Excerpt # 1 from the mind of Syphira I was there once. That place they call sane. I don’t really know what that means. Such a boring monosyllabic word. And normally I don’t mind monosyllabic words, but that one just sounds so ominous. I was there once. When the ocean sounded like water, not an inferno of eternal fire. Maybe the water turned to fire when I wasn’t looking, but it’s much more interesting this way. A passing seagull glares at me in indignation for defiling the normal way of things. Evaporating I am evaporating. I am infinite and yet I have somehow become finite. I lay still, gazing at the sky above me. A vast sea of stars drifts above me, beckoning me to join their silent lament. I am evaporating, and yet I have no will to impede my ascent. I am vapor on the wind. Drifting . . . ever drifting.

The Swallow            It’s a funny thing. What goes through one’s mind when exposed to the most pure, sweet beauty in the known world. What a wonder of physics this small little beauty is. Such simple perfection. Strange how something so innocent, something so beautiful can bring such sorrow. I don’t know why I feel this sadness. Perhaps because moments like this are so fleeting, perhaps because I wish to be that sweet little swallow. He flies with a freedom unknown to me. Free of sorrows, free of burdens, free of a care in the world. All that exists for him is the moment he is in now. The open skies he is in now. All he fee
